Change Up Pitch

The change up has been a very tricky technique not used by everyone. Pedro Martinez, a Dominican pitcher, used the change up pitch a lot and this pitch is was led him to his three CY Young awards. Since Pedro Martines used the pitch it became very popular in the Dominican Republic. The change up pitch is almost like a fastball, but with lower velocity. The grip of the change up is what makes the ball to slow down. In baseball a usually used term is "off speed pitch" which usually means a ball slower than a fastball. The change up is usually used to confuse the batter because the arm motion of the change up is exactly the same as the fastball so the batter woul think it's a fastball and earlier and miss. Another way to throw the change up is by grabbing it with three fingers and the motion is still slower and it will downward. There are two ways to hold the change up: one is the box change grip.

The second way to hold the change up is the the circle change grip.

There are many other types of change up pitches like the palmball, gyroball, vulcan change up etc. This video shows how to stand and to be when you actually throw a change up pitch.
